Match that quote, issue 3
(Category: Match That Quote )

I think I'm addicted to this meme. For those of you who missed the first two versions, here's the rules:

  1. Pick 13 movies that you enjoy.
  2. Pick a line of dialog that you like.
  3. As people guess the film, strike out that entry.
  4. NO cheating!!! That means NO: Google, IMDb, searching my archives etc.!
  5. First person to correctly guess each entry gets a point. If there are any left after 24 hours they are worth 2 points.

Quotey bits are in the extended entry. Game on!

#1, A Few Good Men, Caught by Dafyd
"We joined the Marines because we wanted to live our lives by a certain code, and we found it in the Corps. Now you're asking us to sign a piece of paper that says we have no honor. You're asking us to say we're not Marines. If a court decides that what we did was wrong, then I'll accept whatever punishment they give. But I believe I was right sir, I believe I did my job, and I will not dishonor myself, my unit, or the Corps so I can go home in six months... Sir."

#2, The Longest Day, Caught by Kenny
"Well put the boot back on and lace it up tight!"

#3, Searching for Bobby Fischer, Caught by Paul
"He's better at this than I've ever been at anything in my life. He's better at this than you'll ever be, at anything. My son has a gift. He has a gift, and when you acknowledge that, then maybe we will have something to talk about."

#4, Finding Forrester, Caught by Rob
"I came back to see, if you could help me out with my writing."
"Here's one: 5,000 words on why you'll stay the fuck out of my home."

#5, Airplane!, Caught by Clancy
"It was a rough place - the seediest dive on the wharf. Populated with every reject and cutthroat from Bombay to Calcutta. It's worse than Detroit."

#6, Conan the Barbarian, Caught by Timmer
"There comes a time, thief, when the jewels cease to sparkle, when the gold loses its luster, when the throne room becomes a prison, and all that is left is a father's love for his child."

#7, The Whole Nine Yards, Caught by Contagion
"I'm telling you this like a friend because if you screw this up - I would hate to... I would really hate to have to kill you. I would hate it more than mayonnaise. You know how much I hate mayonnaise."

#8, Analyze This, Caught by Tiffani
"I can feel the juices rushing back to my balls as we speak."
"Well, that's something I never thought I'd hear another man say to me."

#9, The Sound of Music, Caught by Dafyd
"Perhaps those who would warn you that the Anschluss is coming - and it is coming, Captain - perhaps they would get further with you by setting their words to music."
"If the Nazis take over Austria, I have no doubt, Herr Zeller, that you will be the entire trumpet section."
"You flatter me, Captain."
"Oh, how clumsy of me - I meant to accuse you."

#10, Beauty and the Beast, Caught by Dafyd
"It's not normal for a woman to read! Soon she starts getting *ideas*, and *thinking*..."

#11, Clerks, Caught by Paul
"I'm stuck in this pit, working for less than a slave wages. Working on my day off, the goddamn steel shutters are closed, I deal with every backward ass fuck on the planet. I smell like shoe polish. My ex-girlfriend is catatonic after fucking a dead guy. And my present girlfriend has sucked 36 dicks."

#12, Eight Legged Freaks, Caught by Rob
"Mom! I am not you, I'm not gonna get pregnant at 16, I'm not gonna stay here for the rest of my life and be a trailer trash sheriff!"
"Thanks for the flash back. I really didn't deserve that!"

#13, Top Gun, Caught by Dafyd
"Requesting permission for flyby."
"That's a negative ghostrider, the pattern is full."

Posted by: Tiffani at March 9, 2005 10:34 AM

A slight aside... don't you just hate it when you think you know but have to search to confirm (hoping you got it wrong) only to find you were right and have invalidated guessing rights?

I guess I should learn to trust my instincts...

Posted by: Rob at March 9, 2005 10:55 AM

Tiffani - Correct!

Rob - Guessing's free. Easy solution - post the guess first, then you're free to look it up to see if you just embarrassed yourself. Errr. I mean you're free to see if you got it right.
