Okay, we've all seen the picture of Miss Afghanistan in a bikini. She has a pretty face and enough body fat to feed an army of mice for about a millisecond. Could somebody please buy this girl an ice cream cone?
But it seems that she's been in the States for the past 8 years or so and there wasn't any actual pageant in Afghanistan that she won in order to represent the country. Did you really expect that there was? I mean, come on now. We displaced the Taliban but the Afghani culture is still the same as that of its neighbors. If a genuine Afghan girl stripped down to her skivvies and paraded around on stage she'd get a belly full of stab wounds from one of her brothers trying to "reclaim the honor" of the family.
So is it a good thing that Miss Afghanistan is part of the Miss World pageant? Well, sure it is. The more half nekkid women there are in the world the better. Is it an indication that Afghanistan is moving towards a "western" culture? Nah.
its unbelievable that she is representing afghanistan, first off- i dont think afghan women or the afghan people want a woman who cheated on her husband and went wild in the community and was/is none as a hoar to be representing them- this was long before the pagent- all afghans know her reputation of being incredibly cold-hearted especially to her husband, who brought her over from pakistan, gave her everything she wanted , but that wasnt enough for her, she took his money, his good name, and his heart- and killed his spirit....yeah thats who afghans really want representing them

They are West Asians, have a completely different culture and have nothing to do with Arabs. By the way most Arab countries DO NOT have a law requiring women to wear head covers, go back to school so you dont have to make such stupid comments.
All say anything you want. It is a free world. All I have to say is that, first of all no matter what you do, doesn't make all happy; specially Afghans. Just wake up and smell the coffee. It is the 21st century and one more thing, let one do whatever she/he wants to. None of anyone's DAMN business. We all have done something bad in our lives, and what has happened, representing Afghanistan, was not such a bad thing. There are Afghan strippers and convience me how of a great contribution they are doing for the community. At least this was done for a good reason.

iam an afghan female...and have been raised in the west for the past 20 yrs....and never once have i had the desire to put my family's and my country's morals to the side just so i can prove to people how "liberal" and "free" i am .....i have not only proven it to others but others have shown it to me as well....no one here in the west asks me why i dont show more cleavage...or as to why i never bare my legs..and if they do i am not ashamed or hesitant to tell them the reason why...that is ..."iam an afghan"...i would NEVERRRRRR humiluate myself such as she has done...you just watch and see this Vida chick...she'll end up marrying a "westerner"...cuz aint no real afghan man would wanna marry her...please for all you americans out there....please stop trying to fix and hand out freedom like its gonna outta style...fix your own country and then talk......just cuz this woman happens to be wearing a swimsuit doesnt mean the rest of afghanistan is proud of her...shes probably disowned by her family now.....you know whats weird about this whole situation...i have seen many movies about 'beauty pageants" ...bout ugly ducklings or the very rare that want to stand up and protest against the requirement to participate in a pageant..ie swim wear...and the movie shows us that we should stand up for our rights and not have to give in to the "judges" and bare our skin infront of them just so they can tell what place you'll come in in the pageant....why is it when we are with out girlfriends talking about the same movie ...our so called "feminism " kicks in...but then when its a situation like this where she bares herself ...people are also routing her on.....thanks but no thanks......if Miss Earth pageant was actually about what it says its about ...then hmmmm...we wouldnt be seeing any one of them in swimwear....

I wish Vida would take the time to really get her story straight. The Orange County Magazine ( a free advertisment publication) has recently publsihed an article about her applauding her for defying her religion and the Afghan culture...Since the begining of this fiasco, all elements of her story keep changing. I would like to ask Vida, if the prize she is paying for some cheap lies about her changing story about coming to the States, her life story, her education, where she lives, what she believes in, and what she wants to do for Afghanistan, her parents, is worth all the real values that she has given up...What Afghanistan does need are honest, educated, and independent women with some brains, and a pride about who they really are. I admit, Vida is a beautiful 32+year-old woman, who could make good on her wrong by first stopping to spread more lies about her and who she really is. Sweeping generalization about the mistreatment of ALL Afghan women by ALL Afghan men and their Husbands may be a personal story of Vida's own or her family's lives; however, it is not an indication of the prevailing culture of Afghanistan. Vida must remember that it was because of the current political and social issues of Afghanistan and it was under the name of Afghansitan, that she attracted the media and all the publicity surrounding her, not her beauty. After all, she must have not been that beautiful, or at least she would have made the top ten list...or was honesty, and having some knowledge and pride about your country also part of the requirements to win? Vida must learn that the number one virue in life is : Telling the Truth...and the truth is that the prize to win the miss earth pagan was some $ 10,000. which must have been an attractive sum to Vida, and yes it was not going to be sent to help some Afghan woman or child. After all, Vida must agree with me that $ 10K is not much money to live a luxurious WESTERN life style. If being in a beauty pagan was of such lasting success and glamour, some Misses would not be selling beauty products to sustain themselves.
