In a sad testament to the current traffic on SBD, I was reading old, old stuff today and came across this 'Honest Bloggers Quiz'.
Since it's once again an election year, I figured this was very timely filler. Without further ado; my worthless opinions:
1. Which political party do you typically agree with?
Republican, but that's not to say I agree with them so much as I tolerate them better than the Democrats.
2. Which political party do you typically vote for?
I'm actually about 50/50.
3. List the last five presidents that you voted for.
I'm only old enough to have voted for two, Bush ('00) and Kerry (cringe). I ended up regretting both equally
4. Which party do you think is smarter about the economy?
Both parties have the collective intelligence of a bag of hammers. Every once in a while, one member of either party might come up with a good idea; but it is inevitable that they will not be able to gain momentum because all the rest are so headstrong in their stupidity.
5. Which party do you think is smarter about domestic affairs?
Again, a depressing dead heat between dumb and dumber. I guess much of this might depend on your own moral compass, as domestic issues tend to deal with legal definitions. I suppose I'm right of center, but not in the religiously conservative sense. For instance, I personally wouldn't support abortion, but I could honestly care less if everyone else does. I support their right to it, and wouldn't ever vote against abortion.
6. Do you think we should keep our troops in Iraq or pull them out?
I think we should evaluate that on a regular basis, allowing our military leaders to dictate a strategy that they think would chart a successfull trajectory for democracy and stability in Iraq. Currently, I'm glad we've decided to stick it out, given the positive developments.
7. Who, or what country, do you think is most responsible for 9/11?
Islamist extremism. It's not a country, it's an ideology.
8. Do you think we will find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq?
We actually did find WMD in Iraq. Will we find more? I have no idea. I guess this question dates the survey, but I'm not even sure if that's a main focus, now that we're post-surge and Iraq is coming into it's own. I've got a lot of respect for the people in Iraq, because it can't be easy to tear your nation down and rebuild it. Sometimes I wish more people in my own country still had that ballsy grit.
9. Yes or no, should the U.S. legalize marijuana?
Although I occassionally shared in this cultural phenomenon during my youth, I don't anymore; so I can't say I really care. However, given the theoretical economic benefits (streamlining government cost structure while at the same time increasing revenues through what I assume would be a taxed product), and the fact that it's already so ubiquitous; I wouldn't oppose an economically sound proposal to legalize marijuana.
10. Do you think the Republicans stole the last presidental election?
No. Conspiracy theories always make me laugh because they are a direct result of humanity's unending desire for someone to be in control of everything. Conspiracy theories are the modern day iteration of ancient Greek or Roman mythology. They're just a coping mechanism for the things that happen around us that we percieve as out of our individual control.
11. Do you think Bill Clinton should have been impeached because of what he did with Monica Lewinski?
No. The day they outlaw head is the day I move to Canada.
12. Do you think Hillary Clinton would make a good president?
Not really. I think she'd be better than Obama. Which, if I may take a moment; is the stupidest presidential nomination I've seen in a long time. This guy has 4 years of experience. Just for an arbitrary comparison - John McCain has been serving his country for longer than Obama has been alive. In fact, he spent more time in a Vietnamese prison than Barak has spent in the Senate. I just think a young president lacks the long view that a leader needs, and would be easily manipulated by those with more experience and devious intentions.
13. Name a current Democrat who would make a great president.
Um...
14. Name a current Republican who would make a great president.
I liked Fred Thompson's web site, and at times he was great in person; but sometimes I wished he was more aggressive.
15. Do you think that women should have the right to have an abortion?
We covered this already.
16. What religion are you?
Depressed cynic.
17. Have you read the Bible all the way through?
For the most part. I went to catholic schools through the 11th grade, so if it's in the Bible; I've heard it. In fact, I've heard some shit at church that isn't even in the Bible. Did you know that even God thinks global warming is a crock of shit?
18. What's your favorite book?
Oh man, there are so many good ones. I think I prefer the one at the MGM Grand or Caesar's Palace; because of the seating arrangement and how high the TV's are on the wall. That being said, there are plenty of other sports books I've never been to; like The Wynn. I bet that one's awesome.
19. Who is your favorite band?
Right now I'm listening to Mofro a lot, it's a southern rock/blues band; but I don't really have a band that's highly favored over any others that I consider worth listening to.
20. Who do you think you'll vote for president in the next election?
At this point, McCain just given the choices. I've got a neighbor who's a Ron Paul supporter, and he's always like "Ron's still in it, man!" Dude, he's in it, but only in the same way that Chief Wiggum is also a viable ticket.
21. What website did you see this on first?
Snooze Button Dreams, the greatest website on the Intarwebs.
Now I can't decide if I should put an "Elect Chief Wiggum" sign on the lawn or not.
Paul/Wiggum for me!!
