Have any of you finished the last Harry Potter book?
I read it this weekend, and finished last night at the godawful early hours of this morning.
All throughout reading these books, I've noticed that they make fine parables for the current war on terrorism/Islamofascism. I'd be willing to bet, though, that the author's intention (much like Tolkien, I'd imagine) was not to create such a parallel. But I just can't help but see it. Does anyone else? Just figured I'd ask...

You've stopped reading my blog haven't you?
I finished it a few weeks ago and I agree with you.
Sorta kinda, and sorta not. The problem is that such generalizations can be made about any story with a country-wide conflict. You can't help but draw parallels, even when they're not deliberately created by the author.
In this case, I think that there may have been some small influence, but Rowling was working from a ten-year-old outline that already laid out the major points of the story line. So some of it was probably guided by her personal take on the current world situation, and some of it was just plot.
Your Mileage and all that, of course. I could be talking out my ass. Which is quite a trick when you think about it.
That's true Keith, and something I'd completely forgotten - that she was working off an idea that was older.
What's next, shank? Nancy Drew? The Hardy Boys?
I was thinking of taking on the 'Choose Your Own Adventure' series actually.
